NNPC calls on qualitative science, technology education.


  The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has called for policy emphasis on science and technological development in Nigeria’s education curriculum.
  The call was made by the National Coordinator of NNPC quiz competition , Mr Olutayo Sani during the corporation’s south east zonal secondary school quiz competition held at St John of God Secondary School, Awka,  Anambra state.
He said the quiz competition was part of NNPC’s corporate social responsibility to boost education, especially science education, in the country.
He added that the competition was  aimed at assisting the students in their promotional examinations as well as in JAMB, NECO and WAEC.
   Sani who noted that education was the best legacy to bequeath any generation, said the NNPC quiz competition has began at senatorial districts of the each states of the federation
    He said both private and public secondary schools were captured in the competition.
Abia state which won the 2016 zonal competition will  represent the geopolitical area at the NNPC national quiz competition coming up later in the month in Abuja.
Abia scored 55 points to beat Enugu state to second position with 40 points.
Anambra and Imo came joint third with 35 points each, while Ebonyi state came fourth (last) with 25 points.
   The students were quizzed on English language, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
 Speaking, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha, who was represented by a permanent secretary in her ministry, Mrs Beatrice Okonkwo commended NNPC for the transparency it had exhibited in the competition since its inception in 2001.
