Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wayne Rooney did not want to play as a striker against Norwich City on Saturday.
The Red Devils captain was forced to play further up the pitch at Carrow Road, due to Anthony Martial’s injury during the warm-up. Marcus Rashford had been left out of the match day squad.
Rooney eventually provided the assist for Juan Mata’s winner, which ensured United is now one point behind rivals, Manchester City.
“I don’t think he was very happy with me that I decided to put him in the striker’s position,” Van Gaal said afterwards.
“But Januzaj had played 45 minutes yesterday so I couldn’t put him in the starting lineup today. But Rooney did very well to assist Juan Mata. He would have played No.10.”
